David Michels is named the 2023 CE Pharm Award Winner.

The CE Pharm Award recognizes an individual for sustained and significant contribution to the practical application of capillary electrophoresis (CE) to the analysis of biotechnology and pharmaceutical products. It is awarded annually at the CASSS CE in the Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Industries: Symposium on the Practical Applications for the Analysis of Proteins, Nucleotides & Small Molecules (CE Pharm).

The CE Pharm Organizing Committee selected David Michels for his dedication, expertise, and influence in capillary electrophoresis (CE). Beyond his 30+ publications, David has mentored many aspiring scientists in the field, ensuring knowledge and passion for CE are perpetuated within the industry. He is recognized as an innovator in the development and validation of charge- and size-based platform methods, notably the use of multivariate study designs during method optimization and robustness, as well as the advancements in applications in the field of fluorescent detection.

CE Pharm provides an interactive forum for the discussion of CE in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, including regulatory considerations. The forum also provides a venue for industrial CE practitioners to meet, network, and exchange knowledge for mutual education. This year’s meeting was held in Philadelphia from September 24–27, 2023.

Michels’ dedication to speaking about and knowledge transfer of CE has been of great benefit and impact within the CASSS community. The CE Pharm organizing committee stresses the interdependence and partnerships between pharmaceutical companies, regulatory agencies, academia, and instrument manufacturers. Michels’ recognition demonstrates this philosophy.
