CASSS is pleased to announce Marcia Santos, Staff Applications Scientist at SCIEX, as the 2026 recipient of the CE Pharm Award. The award recognizes sustained and significant contributions to the practical application of capillary electrophoresis (CE) in the analysis of biotechnology and pharmaceutical products.

Marcia has devoted her scientific career to CE. Her work began at the Institute of Chemistry at the University of São Paulo, where her thesis research explored CE method development, laser-induced fluorescence detection, and mass spectrometric analysis of sulfonated metallophthalocyanines. At SCIEX, she has built expertise in CE and CE–mass spectrometry workflows for biopharmaceutical analysis, including CE-SDS, capillary isoelectric focusing, glycan analysis, and applications involving monoclonal antibodies and other biotherapeutics. Her contributions also reach the scientists who use these methods every day. Known for sharing her expertise with patience and care, Marcia helps CE users work through difficult analytical problems. At the CE Pharm Troubleshooting Workshop, she draws on her practical experience to help participants understand how methods perform in laboratory settings and find ways forward together.

This award is presented at the CASSS CE in the Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Industries: Symposium on the Practical Applications for the Analysis of Proteins, Nucleotides & Small Molecules (CE Pharm). This Symposium provides an interactive forum for the discussion of CE in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, including regulatory considerations. The forum also provides a venue for industrial CE practitioners to meet, network, and exchange knowledge for mutual education. This year’s meeting was held in Rockville, MD, from September 27-30, 2026.
