A Recap of the North Carolina Discussion Group's (NCDG) First Meeting– A Success!

From NCDG co-chairs Mary Beth Pelletier and Justin Aldridge, both with Biogen:

"The inaugural CASSS North Carolina Discussion Group meeting was held on Thursday, May 2 in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

More than 80 people representing 28 companies attended the event, where keynote speaker and CASSS member Joe Siemiatkoski (of J. Siemiatkoski Consulting) presented an overview of CMC hot topics. We broke into round tables for discussions of issues and sharing of information, and then we wrapped up the event with a networking social.

The purpose of the group is to create a NC-based forum where scientists and others interested in CMC development of biopharmaceutical products can participate in the CASSS vision by gathering to share knowledge and experiences with peers and develop the bench of future talent in the area.We are looking forward to the next one!"

Stay tuned for information on the next NCDG meeting.

We are pleased to announce Kateřina Fikarová as the winner of the 2019 CASSS Frantisek Svec Fellowship!

Kateřina Fikarová, from Charles University in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, will be applying her award towards a four month research stay at the University of Tasmania under the supervision of Dr. Fernando Maya. She’ll continue her work in chromatographic separation, exploring a new generation of hybrid materials combining organic polymer monoliths and porous crystals based on metal-organic frameworks to allow for the separation of biopharmaceuticals with high efficiency.

In her recommendation, Associate Professor Dr. Hana Sklenářová praised Katerina’s initiative and her “interest in getting extra knowledge and having good skills in the laboratory.”

The CASSS Frantisek Svec Fellowship for Innovative Studies was created in 2016 to introduce graduate students and post-doctoral researchers to the broad range of possibilities in the field of biopharmaceutical science and technology by encouraging cross-training and innovative learning opportunities – and thereby helping to nurture future leaders in the field.
