Member Spotlight: Bruce Thompson, Vice President of Process Science at Lyell

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT | AT EUROPE | EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR LETTER

Member Spotlight: Bruce Thompson,
Vice President of Process Sciences at
Lyell Immunopharma

The Member Spotlight is an ongoing Q&A series focused on getting to know the CASSS community. Today’s spotlight shines on Bruce Thompson, Vice President of Process Science at Lyell.

Q. What was your motivation to volunteer with CASSS?
CASSS has a very strong reputation for excellence in the industry. The focus on the interface with our domestic and international regulatory bodies is a tremendous opportunity for the community at large to benefit from the collective experience(s). I was initially asked to help plan a summer CMC event focused on Cell and Gene Therapy, but enjoyed the event so much, I signed on to stay and volunteer a bit longer.

Q. What would people be surprised to know about you?
I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. My wife and I challenged ourselves to complete a 3 year study while I was a graduate student.

Outreach and Engagement:
CASSS Student Travel Grants

Did you know that funding is available to help students and academic post-doctoral researchers attend CASSS meetings? The organization has a long history of supporting the attendance of graduate students and post-doctoral researchers at scientific conferences – both within the CASSS Family of Meetings as well as other complementary conferences. As the CASSS mission has evolved over the years, we have recognized the need to more directly align the program with current CASSS goals. In 2020, the Academic Outreach Committee is redirecting its efforts to
bringing more students and post-doctoral researchers to CASSS meetings. I invite you to join us in connecting the next generation of leaders with our community. Find out how you can contribute HERE.
