This Q&A is part of an ongoing CASSS series where we invite members to meet other members of the CASSS Community.

This time, we turn our Member Spotlight on Brian Nunnally, a CASSS Board Director. He is currently the Head of Quality Control at Seqirus, a CSL Company in Holly Springs, NC.

Q. How long have you been with your current organization an/or position?
A. I have been with Seqirus for a year.  I was brought into the company as the Site Head of Quality for the Holly Springs manufacturing plant and transitioned to the Head of Quality Control in October of 2018

Q. What was your motivation to volunteer with CASSS?
A. I remember joining the CE Pharm organizing committee not long after I started my first job with Eli Lilly and Company.  I thought it would be a great leadership opportunity for me and to help me establish a network.  I think I was right about that! That opportunity led to many more opportunities, including chairing the CE Pharm meeting (twice), serving on the WCBP organizing committee, chairing WCBP, and being elected to serve on the CASSS Board.

Q. Where did you grow up?
A. I was born in Richmond, Virginia and moved to Gresham Oregon (outside of Portland) when I was 6.  I spent my formative years in Oregon before moving to upstate South Carolina before my Junior year of high school.

Q. What do you do to relax? Do you have any hobbies?
A. LOL! I love spending time with my wife and family.  We like to do a lot of water activities – spending time at the beach or going on the jet skis!

Q. What's your favorite type of food?
A. I like all kinds of food, but southern (USA) cooking is hard to beat.  Deviled eggs are one of my favorites.

Q. Do you speak any languages besides English?
A.Does Southern count?

Q. Do you have any children? Pets?
A. My wife Allison and I have 5 wonderful children ranging in age from 6 to 18.  We recently acquired a new member of the family, Cooper, a Havanese puppy.

Q. What's you favorite type of music?
A. 80s music for sure. I had an awesome 80s playlist with hundreds of obscure (and not so obscure) hits. I love most types of music, but do not care much for bluegrass.

Q. What was the last movie you saw in the theater or book you read and loved?
A. I saw First Man, the biopic of John Glenn and loved it.  I loved the Right Stuff (book and movie) and anything to do with the space race. I did hate the ending of the
movie –  I thought there could have been so much more there.

Q. What famous person do you admire and why?
A. I hate to pick just one person, so I like to admire qualities in individuals.  George Washington’s humility and sense of duty, Thomas Jefferson’s intellect, Dwight Eisenhower’s leadership, Martin Luther King’s courage, Winston Churchill’s oratory, Marie Curie’s curiosity.  Many of these qualities are ones I wish were stronger in myself.  The people I really admire are not as famous.

Q. What’s your favorite destination to travel to?
New York has been a favorite destination for my wife and me.  We love to see Broadway shows and take in all of the aspects of the city.  Who does not love the beach though!

Q. What would people be surprised to know about you?
A. I do not drink any caffeine. Those that know me well always talk about my energy level.  It is all natural believe it or not. The prospect of me WITH caffeine is a scary one. (Tasmanian devil?!?)
