Member Spotlight - Heidi Zhang, CASSS Associate Director and Committee Member

This Q&A is part of an ongoing CASSS series where we invite members to meet other members of the CASSS Community. 

This time, we turn our Member Spotlight on Heidi Zhang, a CASSS Associate Director and member of the WCBP and CMC North America Organizing Committees. She is currently the Head of Analytical Development at Juno Therapeutics, a Celgene company in Seattle, WA. 



Q. How long have you been with your current organization an/or position? 
A. I joined Juno Therapeutics, a Celgene company, as the Head of Analytical Development about a month ago. 

Q. What was your motivation to volunteer with CASSS?
A. I had the opportunity to attend WCBP early in my career and have learned so much from colleagues from all over the world at various CASSS conferences and fora. I want to contribute to this great organization because it provides the platform for regulatory agency/industry collaboration and the opportunity for professional growth. 

Q. Where did you grow up?
A. Beijing, Hong Kong, and Tokyo

Q. What do you do to relax? Do you have any hobbies?
A. Running, swimming, and yoga

Q. What's your favorite type of food? 
A. I am not a picky eater and appreciate any food that is thoughtfully prepared. 

Q. Do you speak any languages besides English?
A. I am fluent in Chinese and speak some Japanese and German.

Q. Do you have any children? Pets?
A. Two elementary school daughters and a pet fish named Ocean Junior

Q. What's you favorite type of music? 
A. Alternative rock and folk

Q. What was the last movie you saw in the theater or book you read and loved? 
A. Salt Houses by Hala Alyan

Q. What famous person do you admire and why?
A. Mahatma Gandhi for his advocacy for peace, for his genuine kindness and for his example of living a simple and meaningful life

Q. What would people be surprised to know about you?
A. I am studying sustainable architecture with the hope to eventually design/build a net zero energy home.
