Thursday, March 5, 2015 (4:00PM - 5:30PM) -- CANCELED

IBBR, Rockville, MD

Join us for an evening of discussion with:

Bertrand Garcia-Moreno, John Hopkins University
"Proteins as pH Sensors:
From Basic Principles to Practical Applications"

Due to the hazards of travel during this winter storm in the DC area on Thursday, we have decided to cancel the D.C. Area Scientific Discussion Group Meeting for Thursday March 5th, and will post a rescheduled time on the CASSS website to have the speaker (Prof. Bertrand Garcia-Moreno E. From Johns Hopkins University) speak later this year.

Learning Objectives:

• Many proteins interpret small differences in pH in different regions of living tissues or cells as biological signals that modulate function.

• The ability of proteins to act as pH sensors or pH-driven switches is encoded robustly in the pKa values of their ionizable groups.

• We have developed technology that will allow us to engineer pH sensitivity in the physiological range of pH in proteins.
