Applications of Microfluidic Technologies in the Biotechnology Industry

Luc Desnoyers, CytomX Therapeutics, Inc.
Carlito Lebrilla
, University of California, Davis
Juan Santiago, Stanford University

It has long been recognized that microfluidic technology has the potential to significantly impact life science research. Indeed, microfluidic technology is currently used in various fields including genomics, proteomics, and drug discovery research. The field draws on diverse disciplines of engineering, chemistry, and biology. There is currently a great deal of research aimed at developing lab-on-a-chip systems to analyze biological systems and to characterize biological drugs.
This forum will focus on the application of microfluidic technologies commonly used in Biotechnology. Topics of discussion will include characterization of therapeutic proteins, nucleic acid isolation and analysis, biomarker discovery, and proteomics. Various Lab-On-Chip technologies will be highlighted. A discussion of current research in microfluidic technologies will provide insight into future directions and potential new applications.

About the CASSS Bay Area Separation Science Forum:

CASSS began as a local, non-profit chromatography discussion group in the SF Bay Area.  Although its offerings have now grown to include multiple North American and international scientific symposia and boasts members from around the globe, CASSS still provides local educational and networking opportunities for separation scientists in Northern California. The CASSS Bay Area Separation Science Forums are your opportunity to meet others who understand what you do, enjoy a meal, and exchange new ideas.
