Mass Spec 2009: Sixth Symposium on the Practical Applications of Mass Spectrometry in the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries
The Ritz Carlton, Philadelphia

More details coming soon...

About Mass Spec

The focus of this Symposium is the application of mass spectrometry (MS) for product characterization, process monitoring, formulation development and release testing in the pharmaceutical industry. Since mass spectrometry is used routinely for a wide array of applications, the meeting will provide scientists in the industry an opportunity to share their data and learn from their colleagues. Although most of the applications may deal with biopharmaceuticals (proteins, DNA, viral vectors), applications for conventional pharmaceuticals will also be discussed.

The Symposium will be held over a period of two and a half days and cover case studies and workshops (industrial, vendor and regulatory) devoted to practical concerns in the use of MS within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

Some of the key issues that have been addressed are listed below:

  • Introduction of MS in the QC laboratory, validation/compliance strategy, system suitability/assay acceptance criteria;

  • Utility of MS as an alternative to conventional assays such as peptide mapping, oxidation, deamidation, glycosylation and disulfide analysis;

  • Expectations from regulatory agencies for MS based assays for product release;

  • Technical issues- quantitation, selective ionization, in-source degradation, utility of SIM monitoring, etc.;

  • Applications of MS for high throughput analysis to screen cell-lines, raw materials, in-process samples;

  • Benchmarking of new technology.

Who Should Attend?

This Symposium is designed for all individuals (industrial, regulatory or academic) who use or would like practical information about the state-of-the-art use of mass spectrometry in the various areas of biotechnology and pharmaceutical development including discovery, formulation studies, process scale-up, characterization, product testing, lot release and stability.
